Starting a scout 800 build. bought a 4BT that came with a th400 tranny. has dana 44 front and rear with 3.54 gears. planning on running same size or slightly bigger. For a 40 year old vehicle most people are upgrading to those components anyway with smaller engines. The 4bt produces alot of torque that would make a 351w feel like a small you also get around 26- 30 mpg vs 7 to 12 mpg i am collecting parts to do that conversion myself.To swap from an A to a P you need a timing housing, the pump with the gear and injector lines. Again, in my opinion, the P-pump is the ultimate pump for the 4BT it is night and day. I have driven the VE pump as well and the P is a far better pump.Phone: 801-563-3140. Conquistador brings up another good point about the 4BT in that it is a dog. They came with 105hp for pre ‘98 and 170hp after ‘98 with 268 and 420 ft/lbs respectively. Another con to them is the weight of them. They can weigh 750-800lbs wet and a 6bt is about 1100lbs, where as an iron block V8 5.3L LS is about 500 lbs.Looking for info on doing a 4bt swap for a 2007 wrangler jk. i apologize if i missed it being done in another thread but i pretty much went page by page to look for a 2007+ jeep wrangler conversion and saw none. I have already upgraded the front suspension with I-beams and disc brakes from a 73 F-350. I have a Watson auxiliary transmission with a 150:1 under drive, 1:1 direct and 1:.75 overdrive ready for the swap.I think with your p-pumped 4BT and a manual trans you will be happiest with twin turbos. No turbo to replace the HX30 is going to be a drop in with little changes. Your HX30 matched with a 60-62mm Compressor Borg warner S300 would prob work really nicely. That 110hp model has more power that most stock 4bt 3.9's. Cummins does make a 120 hp model as well. The non turbo one is close to the same power that the jeep had to begin with.
