Remove the spindle nuts using a 9/16" wrench. Then remove the spindle and brake shield, see photos 9 and 10. Now the axleshaft will pull out, see photo 11. Remove the upper ball joint nut using a 1 5/16" wrench. Thread the nut back on upside down until it is nearly flush w/the ball joint stud.Assemble the pipe coupling and nipple and tighten. Step 3: Drill a 1/2" hole in the center of the cap for the all thread to pass through. Step 4: Screw cap onto nipple. Step 5: Trim the all thread to 8" with a hack saw or sawzall. The ball joint press will require a little more than a foot under the control arm. I HIGHLY recommend the use of jack stands for this job, because there is a lot of pushing, pulling, and hammering. Most cars I've done this to didn't require the removal of the tie rod end or upper control arm unless i was replacing the upper ball joint as well.C.
