The 5th gear hub of H55F transmissions are more prone to this problem than the 4spd transmissions. Wear of the hub can start as a result of high loads on the transmission while in 5th gear (lugging up a hill, for example) or as a result of "rowing" back and forth between 5th and 4th while climging a hill to try to maintain speed.That would explain the problems you're experiencing with it. The transmission has moved the transfer case backward 3 ½ inches. Send the shafts out to a good shop for lengthening and shortening respectively. Secondly, the spacer (about ½ inch wide) on the transmission tail shaft will not work when mating the H55F and the transfer case. You have to add a clutch pedal, master and slave cylinder, clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, and you have to retube the driveshafts since the length of the H55F is different than the A440F.
