How to fix a hole in a plastic gas tank
First, empty the gas tank completely. This reduces risk of fire and allows better access to the damaged area. Drain the tank and let it dry. Clean the affected area with soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel. Sand the area with fine-grit sandpaper to create a rough surface for better adhesion.Hole in plastic fuel tank. Hi we have managed to knock a hole in the plastic fuel tank about half the size of a clenched fist. This is on a Ford 7840. It does sit a bit too low on the side of the transmission and the fuel line ( outlet) hangs lower still so it is always brushing straw etc. A new one is $750 ,can't find a second hand one.

Open the vent, fire up the outboard, and go. Close the vent after shutdown.
