Where can i get a flywheel resurfaced
With a new clutch on the way, I'm wondering if it's better to simply have the flywheel resurfaced (condition willing) or just pick up a new one. On one hand that flywheel has been there for 30 years, but on the other a brand new one from a reputable company (Luk) is a wallet breaking $45 on Rockauto...Maybe it can be resurface if still with in tolerances and is not expensive to do. Minimum, resurface. Best fix, replace that is badly worn. Sure you can reuse it. Just get it resurfaced. Unless it has extreme stress cracks in it it’s perfectly acceptable to have it resurfaced and reuse it.

I don't have a rotary table so I'm planning on mounting the flywheel on some 1-2-3 blocks and fasten to the table with a stud and use some jacks on the perimiter to support the edges of the flywheel. Doing so will cause premature failure, and then you'll have to pay for it again. It has springs and rubber bits inside it to dampen. It also makes it really heavy (22 lbs).You want the surface clean, but slightly rough from a 60 to 100 grit sandpaper to be sure to break up and remove all glazing from the last clutch. Toss it or keep for your boat anchor. Once it turns blue-ish the temper of the metal is unknown. Be sure to get a new starter ring if it doesn't come with the new flywheel.
